Jason Momoa Just Shared Some Aquaman Trailer News In The Most Momoa Way Possible

Following his introduction in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and his full debut in Justice League, Jason Momoa's Aquaman is swimming back to the silver screen to lead his own movie. In recent months, numerous DC Comics fans have been wondering when the first Aquaman trailer would premiere, and it was finally confirmed recently by director James Wan that the preview will finally debut tomorrow during San Diego Comic-Con. But in case you missed that news, Momoa has shared it in the most Momoa way possible: underwater. You can see what I mean, below.

Taking to his Instagram page, Jason Momoa shared this video he recorded a couple weeks ago while back home in Hawaii, but the visit wasn't just to reconnect with family and friends. Like the DC Comics hero he plays, Momoa is a skilled swimmer, and he proceeded to jump off the cliff and into the water with his phone to deliver a special message: that the Aquaman trailer premieres to the masses tomorrow. It was a cool moment, but frankly a waste of a perfectly good phone, though one can logically surmise that the folks at Warner Bros gave Momoa a throwaway phone rather than forced him to sacrifice his own. That dive also looked like it might have been painful, but hey, anything for marketing, right?

It's been a particularly long road to Aquaman. The movie kicked off principal photography in May 2017 and concluded in October of the same year. Like most superhero movies, Aquaman has dedicated a lot of time to post-production, and with a movie like Aquaman, which is primarily set underwater, VFX are key. Outside of a few promo shots of Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, it's only been in the last couple weeks that official Aquaman images have started to trickle in, showing things like Black Manta with his freaky-looking helmet, The Fisherman King (who rules one of Atlantis' seven kingdoms) and even a giant sea dragon! But nothing compares to seeing that first trailer, and now we're only a day away from seeing that first footage.

Set after the events of Justice League, Aquaman sees Arthur Curry finally embracing his royal duties, only to be caught in a battle between surface dwellers who threaten the oceans, like Black Manta, and Atlantans who wish to conquer the surface, like Arthur's half-brother Orm, a.k.a. Ocean Master. The movie's supporting cast includes Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna and Dolph Lundgren as Nereus.

Just because a comedy is received well critically and commercially during its initial release doesn't necessarily mean it will remain popular as the years pass. Mean Girls, though, needn't worry about that, because 14 years after the Lindsay Lohan-led teen comedy dropped in theaters, it continues to be quoted and remembered fondly by many, to the point that it even has its own day. That said, had things gone differently, we could have seen Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood as one of the Mean Girls leads, and the only reason she turned down the movie was because it was too similar to another project she had lined up. When asked if it was true that she auditioned for Mean Girls, Wood responded:

It's even worse, I turned it down. There's a good reason. The only reason was because I was already supposed to do a film called Pretty Persuasion that was set in a high school, that was very Heathers-esque and it was very similar. I was already doing that, so I was like 'I can't.'

Evan Rachel Wood set the record straight during her appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and in hindsight, I would imagine that she's wishes she would have taken the Mean Girls role. While Mean Girls opened wide to the public in 2004, earned many positive reviews and made $129 million off a $17 million budget, Pretty Persuasion, which came out in 2005, opened in select theaters was was met with mostly negative reception. I can understand Wood at the time not wanting to star in two high school-set movies at the time, since there's no way should could have predicted that Mean Girls would be so successful. Alas, things didn't work out that way, but Wood is still interested in working with Tina Fey, who wrote the screenplay, which was based off the book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. Provided that Fey's next project isn't about a "robot uprising," Wood is all in on a collaboration.

While she didn't end up appearing in Mean Girls, Evan Rachel Wood has still built a solid acting resume. In the years after Mean Girls and Pretty Persuasion, she appeared in projects like Running with Scissors, Across the Universe, The Wrestler and True Blood. She can currently be seen playing Dolores Abernathy in HBO's Westworld. As for the Mean Girls, while a direct sequel starring Lindsay Logan, Rachel McAdams and the rest of the main cast never happened, Mean Girls 2 was released on ABC Family in 2011, and it starred an all-new cast with the exception of Tim Meadows, who reprised Principal Ron Duvall. A Mean Girls musical also just opened on Broadway, and a couple years back, a spinoff titled Mean Moms entered development, but as of late 2015, it's been stalled.

See What Carnage Could Look Like In Venom 2

Venom promised in its final moments that should it ever get a sequel, it was gonna have Carnage. And almost like clockwork, the impressive box office performance of Eddie Brocks latest big screen incarnation lead to the news of Venom 2 being a going concern for Sonys growing universe. Which means that promised matchup between him and Cletus Kasady is more than likely happening in that sequel, prompting a fan to speculate what they think that character will look like. Send your eager eyes below to see what Carnage might look like:

Fan art is certainly nothing new to the world of the internet, but this piece is one of the most grounded exhibitions of artwork weve seen since BossLogic started tearing up the web. It also helps that the artist behind this piece took a shot from Venom, re-colored it the typical crimson hue that Carnage has been shown to possess in his comic variant, and released it for all the world to see.

Thats pretty much the deal with what artist William Gray has shown us in this Venom 2 inspired piece. And inspiring it is, as theres a whole bunch of directions for the films plot to potentially take, with actor Woody Harrelson presumably still playing the vicious villain. But dont go thinking any of those roads will be seeing any sort of maximum Carnage action thatd push this sequel into R-rated territory. Franchise producer Avi Arad is of the mind that while Cletus does have homicidal tendencies, they dont necessarily need to be shown in gory detail on the screen.

Even though the film is greenlit, and in early stages of production, the talent returning for Venom 2s behind the camera operations is still a mixed bag. While writer Kelly Marcel is on board as working out the story for the follow-up, Venom director Ruben Fleischer might not be back due to scheduling conflicts. So if theres a new director steering the ship for Venom 2, there just might be a change to the exact look and feel of this next chapter.

If a new talent winds up in the directors chair for the next Venom film, there could be a change in the look of Carnage, or potentially an alteration to just how much of the character well see. Lets just hope that however things progress, Venom 2 takes some well earned advice to keep its box office fortunes in line with the results of its predecessor.

Venom 2 doesnt have a release date just yet, but some speculate that it could make its bow in a slot that Sony has put aside for an untitled Marvel film next year.
