Mark Hamill Has Put A Viral Star Wars Meme To Bed

While so many fans of Star Wars take their fandom quite seriously, it doesn't mean they don't also have some fun at its expense. A popular meme that has been circulating on social media shows Mark Hamill in the original Star Wars: A New Hope pointing a lightsaber hilt in such a way that, were he to activate it, he'd put a hole in his face. The problem is, the image being used never actually appears in the movie, something which has been confirmed by many after Mark Hamill himself asked the question. Check out the meme below.

Mark Hamill posted the meme to Twitter wondering if this shot, of Luke Skywalker about to put a hole in his head, is actually in the movie, or if this was just a still image taken during production. Many chimed in to say that it's actually just a production still of Hamill and Sir Alec Guinness on set filming the movie. This is a picture of Mark Hamill examining a prop, not Luke Skywalker looking at a lightsaber.

I re-watched the scene in Obi-Wan's home myself just to be sure and I can confirm that this moment doesn't actually happen in Star Wars: A New Hope. Of course, that doesn't make the picture any less funny. It does feel like he's just a moment away from accidentally impaling himself. The fact that Obi-Wan looks like it's no big deal makes it even better. It's like he could care less if this kid kills himself.

Mark Hamill is the last guy in the world who would have a problem with anybody laughing at Star Wars. He spends a great deal of time on social media poking fun at himself and the franchise as well. It's clear he wasn't so much trying to debunk this meme as he was simply trying to figure out when it happened. He calls it short term memory loss, but considering this picture is over 40-years-old, Hamill can be forgiven for not remembering the specifics.

Of course, while this meme is focused on Star Wars' past, most fans are focusing on the future. Star Wars: Episode IX recently wrapped shooting and many are expecting things like the film's official title and the first trailer, to be released in short order. At this point, most eyes are probably on Star Wars Celebration coming up in April, any official news that we get between now and then will just be a bonus.

Bringing up this meme could even be a subtle way that Hamill tried to get people on his timeline talking about something other than Episode IX. One can easily assume he's being regularly inundated with requests for info, the title among other things. Though it's entirely likely that Hamill himself doesn't actually know what the new movie will be called.

Among the most heartbreaking deaths in Avengers: Infinity War, and certainly the most memed, was Peter Parker's, who didnt feel so good and faded to dust in Tony Starks arms. Given that, we are especially eager to see Peter Parker brought back to life and reunited with his mentor once more in Avengers: Endgame. While we wait for that emotional moment, Robert Downey Jr. has shard a behind the scenes look from the film of himself with Spider-Man. Take a look:

One of the best things about the MCU is the fun pairings of actors and their characters, and although Iron Man and Spider-Man is one of the newer ones, first coming in Captain America: Civil War, it is easily one of the most entertaining. We see their great dynamic here, as Tony Stark is attempting to be his normal snarky self with Robert Downey Jr. sarcastically saying how stoked he is to be in the photo.

But he cant help but smirk next to his mentee, Tom Hollands overly enthusiastic Peter Parker, who is genuinely stoked to be standing next to Mr. Stark. The upside down internship certificate is a nice touch too. What a fantastic duo these two are and if Robert Downey Jr. leaves the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame, more of this pairing will be one of the top things well have to lament.

This picture is a cool behind-the-scenes look at a shot from the most recent Avengers: Endgame trailer where Tony is holding a photo of himself and Peter Parker with the internship certificate. Every hero seems to have one person in particular who was snapped away that most affected them, and with Pepper alive, for Tony, thats Peter Parker. You can the image of this scene from the teaser below:

This scene reminds us how Tony Stark at times attempted to use Spider-Man and provide some guidance to Peter Parker, while pretending not to care and not being overly affectionate towards the kid. But its clear now that Tony Stark does care about Peter Parker very much, and hes the person he most wants to avenge and bring back. That makes their potential reunion all the more anticipated.

As Tony Stark hashtags in his Instagram post, the reunion of these two characters can heal the internet, which has spent the last year laughing through the pain at poor Peter Parker who didnt want to go. To do that though, theyll have to heal the divisions in the team and band together to topple Thanos for good.

In recent years, Keanu Reeves has left arguably his biggest mark on the cinematic landscape as John Wick, assassin extraordinaire. Both 2014's John Wick and 2017's John Wick: Chapter 2 were critical and commercial successes, and production is currently underway on the third installment. However, rather than following in its predecessor's footsteps by simply being called John Wick: Chapter 3, Reeves revealed that the third John Wick movie will be officially called John Wick 3: Parabellum. When asked what the Parabellum refers to, Reeves responded:

Prepare for war. It's part of that famous sentence, 'Si vis pacem, para bellum,' which translates as, 'If you want peace, prepare for war.'

Keanu Reeves dropped this latest update while speaking with ComingSoon about his upcoming movie, Siberia. Of course, parabellum is also type of automatic weapon, so considering the kind of world John Wick lives in, that makes this title even more fitting. But going back to Reeves' explanation, John Wick has never been one to shy away from retaliating against those who've done him wrong, and since John Wick: Chapter 2's saw him going on the run, it sounds like our deadly protagonist will be diving into his biggest conflict yet in John Wick 3: Parabellum. Whether he starts it himself or gets dragged into it remains to be seen.

After killing Santino D'Antonio on Continental grounds, which is a big no-no in the assassin community, John Wick was declared excommunicado at the end of John Wick: Chapter 2, thus stripping him of his access to the hotel and underworld resources. Making matters worse, the High Table doubled the bounty that Santino had placed on John's head and offered it globally. After being given a Marker by Winston, who also delayed announcing John's new status for one hour, made a run for it. John Wick 3: Parabellum will see John attempting to escape New York, and Keanu Reeves also revealed during the interview that part of the story sees John seeking out Halle Berry's character, Sofia, for information on the High Table. Methinks those members of the High Table will soon be facing a wave of John Wick-branded retribution.

Along with Sofia, John Wick 3: Parabellum will introduce Angelica Huston's The Director, Asia Kate Dillon's The Adductor, Mark Dacascos' Zero and Jason Mantzoukas' Tick Tock Man, to name a few. As for returning faces, Ian McShane's Winston, Lance Reddick's Charon, Laurence Fishburne's The Bowery King, Ruby Rose's Ares and Common's Cassian will all be returning. Chad Stahelski and Derek Kolstad also reprised their directing and scripting duties, respectively.

Adam Driver And Daisy Ridley Address Kylo And Rey's Relationship In The Rise Of Skywalker

Initially enemies in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey and Kylo Rens relationship morphed into something different in The Last Jedi. With a little help from Supreme Leader Snoke, the two loners, struggling to find their place and purpose, developed this deeply personal connection and despite being on opposite sides of a war. And they found something they lacked in each other.

With Decembers Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker set to complete the Skywalker Saga, this trilogy and the stories of these characters, one of the big questions heading in will be the relationship between Rey and Kylo, and how that relationship/ Force connection will impact their stories in the film. Addressing the relationship with Rey in The Rise of Skywalker, Adam Driver said:

And then he had been forging this maybe-bond with Rey, and it kind of ends with the question in the air: is he going to pursue that relationship, or when the door of her ship goes up, does that also close that camaraderie that they were maybe forming?

As Adam Driver told Vanity Fair, whether or not Kylo Ren continues to pursue some kind of relationship with Rey is one of the biggest questions for his character in The Rise of Skywalker. After the fight with the Praetorian Guard in Snokes throne room, Rey thought Kylo had turned and sought his help to save the rebellion. Kylo had different plans though and held out his hand, beckoning Rey to join him and rule alongside him.

Rey rejects him and ultimately leaves with the Resistance at the end of the film. That impasse between them could be seen as a breaking point. It seems their differences couldn't be solved, leading to a parting of the ways. The same would seem to hold true here, literally closing the door on their relationship.

But if Kylo values that relationship and still believes he can turn Rey to him, then he could choose to pursue that bond. Whether he would find Rey receptive to such a thing and she still sees the light in Kylo is another matter entirely. Ben Solos entire life as Kylo Ren has been a rejection of all the things that Rey values, as Daisy Ridley explained:

I think theres a part of Rey thats like, dude, you fucking had it all, you had it all. That was always a big question during filming: you had it all and you let it go.

Rey has been waiting for and seeking family since we first met her, and cannot understand how Ben could eschew the one thing shes always wanted. Meanwhile, Ben Solo had a family and a good one. They werent some abstract concept Kylo told her horrible stories about either, Rey knows Leia and in the brief time they shared together Han Solo became something of a father figure to her. She also came to know and love Luke. Ben had all these great people in his life that loved and cared about him and he threw it away.

Not only did Ben eschew Han and Luke and Leia, he killed one, tried to kill another (and kind of succeeded) and is at cross-purpose with his mother. Any relationship with someone who has such fundamentally different values than her will be extremely fraught and difficult for Rey.

But families always look different to those who are in them than they do from the outside. From Kylos perspective, he didnt have it all, rather, the pressure of his family and their expectations for him are what have caused him such internal strife, as Adam Driver continued:

How do you form friendships out of that? How do you understand the weight of that? And if theres no one around you guiding you, or articulating things the right way it can easily go awry.

We dont have a ton of insight into Ben Solos childhood or his turn to the Dark Side in film canon. But from Adam Drivers perspective, growing up as the son of the heroes of the galaxy was no picnic. He was always worried about not measuring up to a family legacy laden with tragedy and triumph. Either from a lack of guidance or an approach that didnt speak to him, this pressure led Ben astray.

According to Vanity Fair, the inside word is that Rey and Kylos Force connection will run even deeper than what weve seen so far, meaning that it was definitively not severed with Snokes death. What that means for their relationship in the film and their respective arcs, will they team up to fight Palpatine, will Kylo be redeemed, etc., gives us plenty to speculate over.
