Apparently, Spider-Man Tried To Use The Vulture In A Much Earlier Movie

Thomas Haden Church notoriously played The Sandman in Sam Raimi's third (and final) Spider-Man movie, the cleverly titled Spider-Man 3. Fans refer to it as "the one when everything flew off the rails and went to pieces," primarily because Raimi bowed to studio pressure to include Venom, a villain he had no interest in exploring. Instead, Church says that The Vulture was supposed to be around for his movie, then carry a fourth movie down the line. The actor says:

When they first pitched me the movie, Sandman and, of course, (James) Franco's transformation to the Goblin, we were who he (Spider-Man) had to deal with in the picture and Venom wasn't even in it. They introduced at the very beginning the character of Vulture, but he was only in it briefly, and then at the very end of that picture they were gonna bring The Vulture back just to sorta set the stage that he was probably going to be the main villain in Spider-Man 4. But then, obviously all of that stuff sort of derailed. Well, not so much derailed, but took a different railway.

Last year, Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming marked a number of firsts for the famous web-slinger. It was the first time Spider-Man was able to play in the same sandbox as his Marvel counterparts, thanks to a rights sharing deal between Sony and Marvel Studios. It also was the first time that Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton), aka The Vulture, was used on screen in a Spider-Man movie. But Church's comments confirm what we had been hearing, which is that The Vulture was going to be on deck in an earlier form, setting the stage for Spider-Man 4.

We had heard those rumblings before, as concept art that leaked a while back showed possible sketches of both The Vulture and also Mysterio, another villain who has yet to see the light of day in a Spider-Man movie. This seems ballsy of Sam Raimi to be sketching out the next TWO Spider-Man movies, though seeing as how he was coming off of the wild success of Spider-Man 2, I guess I can see why he had confidence in his saga. Spider-Man 3 shows how quickly a franchise can fall apart, thanks to some questionable decisions.

Zack Snyder Calls Ben Affleck 'My Perfect Batman' While Sharing New Photos

It certainly has been an interesting road for Ben Affleck in his tenure as the DCEU's Batman. While Affleck was initially met with skepticism when he first signed on to the role, it looks like none of that ever came from Zack Snyder. The director recently shared some past pictures of Ben Affleck in costume as the Caped Crusader and called him his "perfect Batman." Check it out.

It's been some time since Zack Snyder had to quit Justice League due to a personal tragedy, and the director has taken to posting extra details and behind-the-scenes info about his DC movies. Most of the time, these posts are about what his original vision was for the DCEU before Warner Bros. got cold feet and did some serious alterations after the reception to Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Zack Snyder had previously shared information on how Justice League was going to put more emphasis on Darkseid back when the film was going to be a two-parter. The director's most recent post, however, is all about Batman. Posting to the social media platform Vero, (via The Credible Nerds Twitter), Snyder shared some photos of Ben Affleck as Batman.

There's nothing too remarkable about the photos, but Snyder took the time to call Affleck his "perfect Batman." As far as aesthetics go, Affleck made for a cool looking Batman. I always thought that they made the suit a little too muscle-y, but there's no doubt that it usually looks pretty good on camera.

As far as the performance goes, Ben Affleck has gotten compliments from fans and critics. His take on Bruce Wayne and his alter ego was labeled a highlight of BvS and people were excited to see where the character would go next.

Unfortunately, things derailed from there. Justice League got plenty of press about its extensive reshoots and the movie underperformed at the domestic box office. Amid all of that, there was a sense of growing frustration from Ben Affleck about his role in all this, and rumors began to circulate that he wanted out as the Dark Knight.

Ben Affleck denied those rumors, but it's noteworthy that his Batman solo movie has gone through some changes, needing to find a new director and writer in Matt Reeves. The development of the film has been slow, and there are rumors that Affleck might not be involved with the movie anymore. Warner Bros. and Affleck have been quiet on the Batman front for a while, but maybe 2019 will be the year where some official news finally drops.

One X-Men: Apocalypse Character Definitely Isnt Returning For Dark Phoenix

During last year's press junket for Aaron Sorkin's Molly's Game, Jessica Chastain opened up to CinemaBlend and explained that Simon Kinberg's X-Men: Dark Phoenix will do some great things for its female characters. Keeping that in mind, we recently sat down with X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Apocalypse star Rose Byrne during the junket for Peter Rabbit to see if CIA agent Moira MacTaggert would be among those badass women. Alas, Byrne revealed that we shouldn't get our hopes up about seeing Moira return in Dark Phoenix, saying:

Unfortunately, Moira is not showing up. I wish she was. I had such fun on X-Men: Apocalypse. I love that cast. It is a really fun, what do you call it? Superhero film... ensemble exactly. I can't wait to see what [Jessica Chastain] does, cause I'm such a fan.

So while Moira MacTaggert played an integral role in the plots of X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Apocalypse, it sounds like she will be sitting things out when the powers of Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) start to go haywire. It's arguably somewhat surprising to learn this, as the return of her memory at the end of X-Men: First Class could've easily allowed her to segue back into action as an ally of the X-Men team and full-time member of the X-Men franchise.

Then again, there are definitely arguments to be made for the case that it's better for her not to return. By the time we were reintroduced to Moira in X-Men: Apocalypse (she had sat out in X-Men: Days of Future Past), the character had already gone on to a new stage in her life, complete with a family to call her own. For her to suddenly drop that and become a new member of the X-Men supporting cast might not line up with her characterization.

Besides, there are still plenty of badass female character waiting to take center stage in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Jean Grey is obviously the star of the show, but Storm (Alexandra Shipp) Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Jessica Chastain's mysterious Smith (who is definitely not Lilandra) are all (among others) characters that we can't wait to see as well.

Of course, this doesn't mean that Moira won't receive a wink, nod or mention during the events of X-Men: Dark Phoenix. All it really tells us is that Moira won't be joining the ensemble on this adventure. Charles' long-dormant romance (although at this point, it's really little more than a crush) has informed much of his characterization since James McAvoy stepped into the role in X-Men: First Class, so for someone like Hank McCoy (Nicholas Hoult) or Magneto (Michael Fassbender) to mention her in passing would make a certain degree of sense.

Simon Kinberg's X-Men: Dark Phoenix will hit theaters later this year on November 2. As for Rose Byrne, you can catch her in Will Gluck's Peter Rabbit this weekend starting February 9.
