Porgs were one of the most popular things to come out of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. They were cute and funny and made people laugh. But be honest, wouldn't you like to cut one to pieces? The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson recently had that opportunity, in a manner of speaking. Johnson was recently presented with a remarkably life-like cake, that was designed to look like a giant porg. This allowed Johnson to carve up the cute little creature in front of an assembled crowd. If you really loved the porgs, you might not want to watch this, it's more than a little disconcerting.
One of the more talked about porg scenes in Star Wars: The Last Jedi involved Chewbacca roasting a skinned porg over an open flame. While we never see him bite into the creature, everybody wondered whether or not he did. Now, director Rian Johnson gets to live his own porg killing experience by slicing up this cake that was created for the Star Wars marketing team. He says doing so was strangely satisfying, after apologizing profusely to the thing beforehand. I can't help but notice that he absolutely carved a chunk out of the poor thing's skull.
If you loved the porgs in Star Wars: The Last Jedi then watching this might be a bit chilling. If, however, you were one of those people that thought porgs were nothing more than a cheap merchandise cash-in, then the above video might be exactly what you were waiting for, watching a porg being utterly dismembered.
It's a remarkably realistic cake. While it looks to be about four times the size of the porgs in the movie, necessary to feed everybody, it's designed with remarkable detail that makes it look exactly like the creatures we met in the film. It's even got a look on its face that seems to show that it knows its about to get sliced to pieces, which doesn't help the creepiness of the entire experience.
Of course, the video doesn't answer the most important question, what flavor of cake was it?
The future of the porg is unknown, some of the little alien seabirds joined Chewbacca on board the Millennium Falcon at the end of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi, so even though we likely won't be returning to their home planet in Star Wars: Episode IX, there's a decent chance that porgs will still be part of the final film in the trilogy. Either that, or we'll get some new cute aliens introduced in the next movie that J.J. Abrams will get to viciously murder at a party.
