Over the years there's been some twists and turns at the Oscars, but it seems likely that we're going to see a lot of A Star is Born at the Oscars. The remake of the classic Hollywood tale starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper has taken moviegoers aback for its incredible music performances and gut-wrenching sequences. Among the Oscars' traditions of gold trophy handouts and musically-nudged speeches, it also features a celebration of the music in the year's most-decorated movies. The co-stars are already preparing for a live performance of the category's front-runner "Shallow", Cooper saying:
We talked about that actually, because I'm such a maniac. I started texting her the whole pitch of how we should do it. So we'll see. There might be a cool, unorthodox way we could perform it.
Looks like the two talents at the center of A Star is Born's success are already plotting to give audiences and home viewers of the upcoming Oscars a show we won't soon forget. As Bradley Cooper hints in his interview with Variety, they are drumming up some ideas on how to make it a unique performance. Lucky for Bradley Cooper, he has a pop icon on his side who has delivered her fair share of jaw-dropping performances at various award shows.
Lady Gaga's role of Ally in A Star is Born differs quite a bit from the imaginative and out of this world persona we've watched her grow in and out of over the years. The performances in her proper film debut has the artist tackling some beautifully raw performances, especially with "Shallow." In the goosebump-inducing scene, Bradley Cooper's Jackson Maine invites Ally to a huge stadium performance, where he starts to sing her song and gives her the courage to come up and finish it. While it's unclear just what exactly Cooper means by an "unorthodox" way to perform it, but the news brings some extra excitement to the Oscars show.
Although A Star is Born has a breadth of worthy original songs, "Shallow" was the only song submitted to the Oscars. The Academy only allows a maximum of two songs per film but if Warner Bros. could have easily submitted another one such as "Always Remember Us This Way" or "I'll Never Love Again" for recognition.
The film is also expected to be a front-runner for some other major categories including Best Picture, Best Actress for Lady Gaga, Best Actor for Bradley and Best Supporting Actor for Sam Elliott. Predictions don't stop there especially for Cooper who could nab a nomination for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay alongside his co-writers.
"Shallow" was written by Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt and Anthony Rossomando. It joins a handful of other original songs in this year's films such as from the upcoming Mary Poppins Returns, Kendrick Lamar's work on Black Panther, music-filled indie Heart Beats Loud and Troye Sivan's song "Revelation" in Boy Erased.
The Oscars are still about three months away, but A Star is Born is still in theaters, dazzling movie screens with its musical numbers.
