Perhaps the greatest success to date of the ongoing horror renaissance was last year's adaptation of Stephen King's IT. The film from Andy Muschietti grossed $700 million worldwide, making the expected sequel a certainty and one of the most anticipated horror movies in the works. IT: Chapter 2 will cover the second portion of Stephen King's epic tome and feature the Losers Club as adults 27 years after the events of the first film, when Pennywise returns to terrorize the town of Derry once again. The sequel has already lined up some marquee talent to play the adult members of the Losers Club, and now another new name will be joining them. Andy Bean has been cast as the grown-up Stanley Uris.
As reported by Variety, Andy Bean joins the film as Stanley Uris, who was played by Wyatt Oleff in the first film. For those unfamiliar with his work, Andy Bean had a role on the STARZ series Power, as well as HBO's Here and Now. He has also appeared on the big screen in Allegiant and Transformers: The Last Knight. Andy Bean joins an already stellar cast that features two-time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain as Beverly, James McAvoy as Bill and Bill Hader as Richie. James Ransone has also indicated that he has been cast as the adult version of Eddie Kaspbrak.
Looking at Andy Bean side by side with Wyatt Oleff, he looks like a good fit for the character who will presumably play a different role than the rest in IT: Chapter 2. Stan was changed a bit from his literary counterpart in the 2017 film to become much more religious. He was the son of a Rabbi approaching his Bar Mitzvah. and was featured in a scene that even scared Stephen King. Stan was a also a bit of a neat freak who was grossed out and fearful of almost everything. Among the Losers Club, he was also the most skeptical about what was happening to him and his friends, and he was the most terrified when they had to face it.
IT: Chapter 2 promises to be even scarier than the first film, and while I'm not familiar with his work, Andy Bean has a pivotal, if likely smaller, role to play as Stan than the other characters. Without going into spoilers (you can look them up yourself if you're curious or don't remember), in the novel and the 1990 miniseries, Stan's story is very different role than the rest of the Losers Club, and it is one that conveys the lasting horror Pennywise has left upon these people. I'm interested to see what Andy Bean can do with it and how much the new film changes things from the other versions of the story.
Director andy Muschietti is back on board to direct the sequel, which is based on a screenplay by Gary Dauberman and Jeffrey Jurgensen. IT: Chapter 2 is scheduled to terrify audiences when it hits theaters on September 6, 2019, so plan your nightmare journals accordingly.
